Routes of entry of hazardous substance into the body

• Inhalation- Breathing in the harmful substance that combines with air through the nose and mouth and down into the lungs.

• Ingestion- When the hazardous substance is taken in through the mouth the swallowed down into the stomach and then moves on through the digestive system.

• Absorption through the skin- When the substance passes through the skin and into the blood stream which make this route of entry very significant since absorption took place directly through any skin contact.

• Injection through the skin- In this route of entry the substance passes through the skin barriers either by physical injection or through skin damage. This is significant for many biological agents.
